Is It Better To Be Safe or Loved... Can't Forget by @ColleenSMyers #Suspense #Romance

Is it better to be safe or loved?

Four months have passed since the E’mani destroyed the Earth and scooped up the remains. Elizabeth “Beta” Camden was one of
those taken. With the help of their enemies, the Fost, she escapes and confronts her prior captors successfully. Though she knows she should remain vigilant toward the E’mani, she follows her heart instead and falls in love with Marin, the sexy Fost warrior.

She should have trusted her first instinct.

This time the E’mani don’t come in force–they slip in silently. And any hope Beta had of a peaceful life is lost. She leaves in the dead of night to find the E’mani stronghold and end them once and for all. But love is a tricky bitch. It takes a threat to Marin’s safety to make Beta realize, if she can’t forget her past, she won’t have a future.

Excerpt:

“That is for later. No peeking.” Well, now I deeply regretted not looking. He must have read my expression because his laughter rang out.
“I love you.”
And just like that he dropped it on me. I froze like a deer in headlights. My heart fluttered. I’d suspected for a while that he did. He’d told it to me in so many small ways since I moved in. I was the first and last thing he thought of every day, that last he had told me. But this was the first time he used the L word. How I felt was more complicated. I was human and he was Fost. And to be honest, I didn’t know what I was anymore, not after the E’mani because I wasn’t me.
He laughed even more at my expression. “It is all right, I do not expect a response, but I wanted you to know.” He glanced down and shifted in his seat.
I pretended it was fine like he said and cleared my throat. “So.”
The silence stretched for a few beats. But it wasn’t all right.
Oh, forget it. I was no good at lying to myself or anyone else. He needed something.

About Colleen:
Colleen S. Myers was raised in a large catholic family in the outskirts of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she grew up on Harlequin teen romances and stories from her mother’s days as a paramedic. She went on to attend Allegheny College majoring in Biology and English.

After college, Colleen spent a year in service in the Americorp giving back to the community at a local Pittsburgh Women Infants and Children Clinic (WICC) before attending Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine on a military scholarship.

Upon completing medical school, Colleen attended residency at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland and was on base in Washington, DC during 9/11. She earned three meritorious service awards from the military. After serving seven years of active duty, she promptly landed a position at the VA to provide fellow veterans with optimum medical care.

Still an avid fan of romances into adulthood, her love of the genre inspired her to hone her craft as a writer, focusing on contemporary romance and science fiction. Her background in medicine and the
military provides an inspiring layer of creative realism to her stories and characters.

Her first book, Must Remember, the first book in the Solum series, is published by Champagne Press. The sequel, Can’t Forget, coming in June 2016, is the recipient of the 2015 RWA New England Readers Award.

Colleen currently resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her husband and son, and spends her spare time writing. She is also working on a new contemporary romance.

Look for her at Three Rivers Romance Writers, at Facebook Colleen Myers, and at @ColleenSMyers.

Special Guest: Author Chris Karlsen

Hi all,

I'm thrilled to welcome a special guest to my blog today. She knows how to handle handcuffs as well as a keyboard and took mercy on a character she'd already killed when begged to let him live.
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Chris Karlsen!

The business ones

Please give us a short introduction about yourself
I’ve always been an avid reader and the desire to write was sparked in my teen years. By the time I reached college age, I waffled on pursuing a writing career as I feared I’d never make a living at it. I chose the safer path and got a degree in business. A few years later I joined the police department and worked for two different agencies over the course of the next twenty-five years. I never lost interest in writing. After I retired from law enforcement, I decided to finally pursue my dream. I started my first book, Heroes Live Forever, and also began taking writing courses to learn the craft.

What genre(s) do you write in and why?
I write romance but in two subgenres. My Knights in Time series are paranormal romance books and my Dangerous Waters series books are romantic thrillers.

Tell us about your latest release
My newest book is Knight Blindness. It’s book three in my Knights in Time series (all of which are set in England). The hero is a character from book 2, Journey in Time. I had killed him in that book (off page by reference). My critique partners loved him and insisted I let him live. I rewrote the scene and instead of making his death a certainty, I left it open as to whether he lived or not. Their reaction gave me the idea to give the character his own story, which turned out to be Knight Blindness.

Do you need a special setting to write in or do you have a ceremony to get you in the mood? What does it look like?
I don’t have a ritual and I’m not superstitious by nature. I have this little niche area between the living room and the dining room that I have my desk, computer, printer and a substantial cupboard for my reference books and bits and bobs for writing (some knick knacks and keepsakes along with small post it notes that I have stuck everywhere *grins* )

Describe your feelings when you learnt that your first book was accepted for publication
I was both thrilled and nervous. Now I’d discover if readers liked my story.

Has the release of your first book changed anything in your personal life? If so, what?
No, not really, not in my interaction with my husband but it has given me focus, a place to be in the afternoons and a goal.

Where do you find inspiration?
I am moved by history, both events and historical figures. I like to build stories around timeframes and folks I am most interested in, like the Battle of Poitiers. That battle is used as the groundwork for my Knights in Time series. Or, the Trojan War, Hector and Achilles, are a fascination I gave the heroine in my archaeological thrillers from my Dangerous Waters series.

Who is your favourite character and why?
Wow, tough question. I’d reluctantly choose Charlotte, my nautical archaeologist in Golden Chariot and Byzantine Gold. I’d pick her because a part of me believes if I could go back in time, nautical archaeology is a profession I’d have enjoyed going into.

A favourite line from one of your books
For me every book has a favorite line. From Knight Blindness I’d say: “Not all lies are bad. Not all truths are good.”

The nosy ones

How much of the real “you” is in your stories?
A fair amount in the heroines and a goodly amount in the heroes as well. I work at putting myself in their place as I give them different scenarios and problems and happy events. I am constantly thinking-What would I do? The characters have advantages I don’t at times and that helps. They can be younger, stronger, and braver.

Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? Who was it?
Well, it is going back to my teens but I’d say I was rather smitten with James Bond. I read all Ian Fleming’s books two and three times. When they cast Sean Connery I thought it was perfect choice. I also think Daniel Craig is an excellent choice for the latest Bonds.

The steamiest scene from your books
There’s a love scene in Knight Blindness where the hero blindfolds the heroine by tying a silk scarf around her eyes and then proceeds to make love to her. The scene is done through all their senses except sight.

Favourite comfort food?
Potatoes in any form but mostly I love mashed. It’s safe to say I never met a potato I didn’t like *grins*

A person you admire
My late father. He was brave beyond imagining, honorable to a fault, and had a great sense of humor. He wasn’t afraid to laugh at life or himself.

If you could ask any person in the world one question of your choice, who would it be and what would you ask them? I don’t know that I can narrow my choice down that far when it comes to a person or question. If I got my hands on various people, I’d have a bazillion questions, some friendly, some not so much.

The fast ones

Favourite colour? Candy apple red

Favourite pet? Sascha, my geriatric doxie who passed away a few years back

Dog or cat? Dog(s) we have 5 rescues

Coffee or tea? Coffee

Hunky or chunky? Hunky

Suit & tie or jeans & boots? Suit and tie

Walk in the park or chat over cocktails? Chat over cocktails

Thank you for the interview, Chris. I loved getting to know you and I already know which book I'll pick next time I'm in the mood for some crime, lol. Let's take a look at your book now, shall we?

Knight Blindness

Ready for battle, Medieval English knight, Stephen Palmer, charges into the French enemy’s cavalry line. Heeding a warning given months before, he hesitates as he comes face-to-face with the knight in the warning. Struck down in the year 1356, he finds himself landing in the year 2013. Grievously wounded, he’s taken to a nearby hospital. Confused by the new world surrounding him, he attempts to convince the staff he’s from another time, only to find they think him mad.

Rescued by friends, who, to his surprise, have also come through time, he must find a way to function in this odd modern England. He is quickly enchanted by the kind Esme Crippen, the young woman hired to tutor him. She too is enchanted by him. Tempted to deepen the relationship, she hesitates thinking him adorable, but mad. He must discover the means for getting her to believe the truth, all the while, unknown to him, he didn’t come forward in time alone. The enemy knight has also traveled to 2013.

French noble, Roger Marchand, doesn’t question why the English knight who charged him hesitated. That fraction of a pause gave him the advantage needed and he brought his sword down upon the Englishman’s helmet hard, unhorsing the knight. He moved to finish the Englishman off when the world changed in a rush of sensations as he is ripped through time.

Seeking a reason for the terrible event, he enters a nearby chapel. There, thinking God has chosen him for a quest to turn French defeat that day in 1356 to victory, he sets out to find the English knight. The man he is convinced holds the key to time. If he returns to the day of the battle, he can warn his king of mistakes that snatched victory from them.

Release Day Special: MK Schiller

Hi all,

Today's special guest is celebrating release day. She's part of the TEB family and well, she has a way with words... Ladies & Gentlemen, please welcome MK Schiller!

The business ones
Please give us a short introduction about yourself
My name is MK Schiller, I’m a wife and mother of two with a day job in the world of finance. By night, I love to sit by the warm glow of a computer monitor and think of sassy, sexy stories.

What genre(s) do you write in and why?
I have written only contemporary M/F romance so far, but I’d like to delve into other genres as well.

Tell us about your latest release
Thank you for asking! It’s a contemporary romance office romance with humorous elements. My goal is to make the reader laugh, sigh, lust, and maybe even cry just a tiny bit.

Marley Mason is dreading the arrival of the new business consultant. After all, this man will most likely outsource her job to China. The last thing she would expect is a case of mistaken identity, leading to false accusations of kidnapping when she attempts to pick up the wrong man at the airport, or worse…that she would have such a visceral reaction to the right man.

Rick Randy is super sexy, scandalously flirty, and perfect masturbation material, but a relationship is out of the question. Rick is contracted on a temporary basis to fix Marley’s ailing company, and then pull out, although as he expresses to Marley, pulling out is difficult for him, in more ways than one! Marley’s feelings range from utter confusion to intense contemplation as Rick charms his way into her life. All of those C-words Marley can control, but it’s the other C-word she fears—commitment.

Do you need a special setting to write in or do you have a ceremony to get you in the mood? What does it look like?
No – I just try myself from the P word – procrastination. It’s hard because I tend to walk into the living room and want to watch a snippet of a show, or read through my emails and Facebook sometimes. Writing can be emotional exhausting, especially the more dramatic areas, so taking breaks is essential but sometimes I take too many!

Describe your feelings when you learnt that your first book was accepted for publication
Joy, justification and pride. It was a total surprise and I have saved that email so I can look back upon it when I’m having a bad writing day.

Has the release of your first book changed anything in your personal life? If so, what?
It’s even harder to write now that I have other duties in getting reviews for my book and marketing, but it’s all exciting.

Where do you find inspiration?
I think of writing like weaving a tapestry. You might here a funny story or a snippet of a conversation that’s totally unrelated but it could apply to this character in a slightly different way. I think writing is mostly observing first and foremost. All of these random obsercations become the fodder for my story...little threads. I change the thread, make it thicker/thinner, and weave it in. Hopefully, I have enough of those threads to make a finished product someone will enjoy.

Who is your favourite character and why?
In literature, it’s probably Robert Langdon from Dan Brown’s books. I’m attracted to intelligence. I think it’s downright sexy. In my book, it’s probably Rick because he’s strong, emotionally and physically.

A favourite line from one of your books
“Marley, if you so much as hurt a hair on my future wife’s pussy, I’ll kill you.”
Suddenly, I didn’t think we were talking about a cat anymore.

Your favourite drink and food when writing
I’d love to say wine, but honestly it’s coffee. I need it.

The nosy ones
How much of the real “you” is in your stories?
There are stories and personality traits, but I’m definitely not as bold as my characters.

Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? Who was it?
There are so many, it’s hard to narrow down. It runs the gamut from Mr. Darcy to Sawyer from Lost.

What’s the silliest error in a book you’ve submitted?
I meant to say ‘caramel’ colour skin but instead I said ‘camel’ - not what I was going for!

Who is your least favourite of the characters you’ve written? Why?
I have a couple books with mean girl characters. It’s hard to write them because you want to make them real people and not over the top.

The steamiest scene from your books
Usually the first love scene in all of the them is the steamiest, which makes sense since the characters have been lusting after each other for a while.

Favourite comfort food?
Mac and cheese – the homemade kind.

A person you admire
I have to say my daughter because she has managed to be a vegetarian for 5 years and a vegan for one. I actually made one of my characters one because I think it’s crazy the amount of dedication that requires.

I also admire Bill Gates. I love anyone who comes from a humble background , becomes a huge success, and still gives back to the community.

If you could ask any person in the world one question of your choice, who would it be and what would you ask them?
Hmmm...I’d ask Jimmy Hoffa where he’s buried!

The fast ones

Favourite colour? Green

Favourite pet? A dog...preferably a mutt with a great deal of affection.

Coffee or tea? Coffee. I’m American so if I’m having tea it has to be iced, which I know is improper.

Quickie or candles? - hmm both. Sometimes when the need is so strong you don’t have a choice. Whatever fits the mood I say.

Hunky or chunky? Hunky

Suit & tie or jeans & boots? Both and either. I like a guy that’s nine to five, but a weekend cowboy too. What can I say? I’m a girl who wants it all.

Walk in the park or chat over cocktails? How about a walk in the park, chatting with a Cosmo in my hand? Like I said, I want it all.

Thank you for the interview, MK! I loved getting to know you better. Let's take a look at your
book now, shall we?

The Other C-Word

Can she overcome her consuming desire for him? Can he make her comfortable with the other C-word…commitment?

Kaylee's First Crush

Special Guest: Bebe Balocca

Hi all,

Today's special guest has just released a hot tiger story (if you know me, you know I love tigers) so I'm especially thrilled that she's agreed to sit down for an interview with me.
Ladies & Gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to Bebe Balocca.

Hello Bebe, thanks so much for being my guest today. I hope you don't mind the heat - here's some iced tea for you while we talk about

The business ones

Please give us a short introduction about yourself
I live in the rural southeastern United States with my family and pets. Ours is a peaceful little town, full of intrigue, secrets and close ties—perfect for daydreaming up some hot romantic fantasies.

What genre(s) do you write in and why?
Mostly erotic mf romance, and some straight-up erotica with mf, ff, and ménage scenes. The erotic romance works I do have intense love scenes, but I enjoy incorporating intrigue, suspense, and humor in there as well. I have some novellas that are pure erotica (as in, the story really revolves around the sex) and those are so much fun to write. It’s really exciting to get lost in the scene and try to get it down on paper so that readers can go right there with me. My goal is to have readers fanning themselves and then hunting down their partners.

Tell us about your latest release
“The Curse of the Tiger”, published by Total-E-Bound, is my first shifter book. It’s set in modern-day Colorado at a fictional free-range tiger ranch. There’s an evil witch, some exceptionally wild animals, and quite a bit of rough-and-tumble sex in this mf short novel.

Do you need a special setting to write in or do you have a ceremony to get you in the mood? What does it look like?
I need total quiet—I wear noise reducing headphones if my kids are home stomping around. My little miniature wiener dog, Scarlett, is usually curled up beside me in her chair as I write, and I like to have some hot herbal tea to sip on. I’m super fortunate that my husband supporting my desire to convert our attic into my office, so I have a comfortable private space just for my work. Yes, I’m a lucky girl, in more ways than one.

Describe your feelings when you learnt that your first book was accepted for publication
I was totally elated! I’d been writing articles for magazines and for an educational company (still do, actually) but writing fiction and getting it published is a lifelong dream. It was incredibly validating.

Has the release of your first book changed anything in your personal life? If so, what?
It’s awesome to talk to new friends about what I do. Every now and then, someone is a little taken aback, but the vast majority of people are intrigued and eager to talk about the business and to learn about my projects.

Who is your favourite character and why?
I love Faline in “Curse” because she gets to live out her dream of running a tiger sanctuary. Like me, she doesn’t doll up much for her work days; she just gets out there and does what she loves to do. It’s fun to imagine being around tigers all the time, too.

A favourite line from one of your books
>>>“Oh, um,” Faline stammered and licked her lips. “We could talk about your options, I suppose. I’d say I probably do have a place for you, now that you mention it, seeing as you’re comfortable with tigers.”

“I don’t know if ‘comfortable’ is the right word.” He took his hand in hers and brought it to his lips. “’Experienced’ is better, I think. I’d say I’m pretty experienced.” He pressed his lips to her knuckles and watched for her reaction. “Would you say that you’re experienced, too, Faline?”<<<

The nosy ones

How much of the real “you” is in your stories?
My female characters all have some of me in them, or at least some of how I’d like to be—they’re bold, open-minded, and unafraid to go after what they want, and they tend to make a stumble or two along the way.

Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? Who was it?
I’ve read Gone with the Wind I don’t know HOW many times. I was so in love with Rhett Butler and thought Scarlet was so ridiculous to keep pushing him away. I mean, what else could a girl want, right?

What’s the silliest error in a book you’ve submitted?
Oh dear. This is embarrassing. I’ve made a couple of anatomical errors that my editors were quick to point out. Let’s just say that as a mom of four and wife of nineteen years, that first time way-back-when is a little fuzzy.

The steamiest scene from your books
In Bubbles and Troubles, book one of my Prescott Woods series, there’s a subterranean spa that’s the scene for some hot (literally – HOT!) love scenes. A natural hot tub with effervescent water and a heated mud bath made for some good clean fun for Carmen and Brock.

Favourite comfort food?
Tomato soup with loads of black pepper and a grilled cheese sandwich.

The fast ones

Favourite colour? Wine red

Favourite pet? My blue-eyed dappled black and tan mini dachshund, Scarlett

Dog or cat? Team dog, all the way!

Coffee or tea? Hot coffee, hot herbal tea, iced tea – all unsweetened, please

Quickie or candles? Um, I have to choose??

Hunky or chunky? Hunky

Suit & tie or jeans & boots? My honey wears cowboy boots with his suits. It’s pretty hot, I’m not gonna lie.

Walk in the park or chat over cocktails? Gosh, tough one. Guess I’ll go with the chat over cocktails, just because it’s a lot easier to slip away to the bedroom that way…

Good point, Bebe, hehe. Thank you for the interview. Now that all the tea is gone, it's time to look at your book. Here's

The Curse of the Tiger

She knew that being close to tigers was her destiny, but she never thought she'd be riding on top of one…

Faline Hopper owns and runs a free-range tiger refuge in northeastern Colorado. She loves the animals and the mission of Kat’s Crest, but the sanctuary is on the verge of financial disaster. A mysterious stranger with deep pockets comes to its rescue.

Hunter Cartwright is one tall, cool drink of Alabama water. Sparks fly immediately when he shows up at Faline’s door. He’s ravenous for the blond beauty, but there’s something he needs to make Faline understand before he can really sink his teeth into her.

Something that happens at sundown, when the tigers roam the sanctuary and the nightly hunts begin…

The curse of the tiger was cast by a Native American witch. Abetzi rejects the Great Spirit and worships a powerful demon instead. Faline is determined to free Hunter from the witch’s spell and to stop Abetzi from abusing exotic animals, but at what price?

Will Faline risk everything to put a halt to Abetzi’s cruelty—And will it be worth it?

About the author:
I love to read and write erotic romance, fantasy, and sci-fi because of the escape factor: I want to leave the ordinary and travel somewhere exotic, unusual, and sexually-charged in a book. My characters are thrust into unpredictable situations, and they respond with humor, open-mindedness, and loads of scorching passion. I hope you enjoy escaping with me into the sultry world of erotic romance.

Special Guest: C.A. Szarek

 Hi all,

Today's Special Guest C.A. Szarek lives where Yours Truly would love to be - watch out, dear, you might have a house guest sooner than you can say "Transatlantic flight". What do you think? I'm easy to keep and will write stories for food... Ahem, sorry, I got a bit distracted. Welcome, C.A. Please take a seat, make yourself comfortable and have some coffee. Time to start with

The business ones

Please give us a short introduction about yourself
I’m originally from Ohio, but I have been in Texas since 2002. I love it down here. I work with kids at both my non-writing jobs.

What genre(s) do you write in and why?
I write a little of everything: Fantasy, Paranormal, Romantic Suspense, Contemporary, and the occasional YA.
I’ve always been into fantasy. Grew up reading the greats, Anne McCaffrey is my fave, and the genre will always be close to my heart.
That being said, I always wanted to be a cop and have been in to “Police stuff.” I never did becoming a police officer, but I have a Law Enforcement background, and I actually work in a court.
I adore paranormal because it’s a mix of both, sorta. *grin*
And YA, well, I work with kids, and sometimes a good story they can read will pop into my head.
Maybe someday day I will be published in all the genres I write.

Tell us about your latest release
Collision Force is near and dear to my heart. It’s my first venture into the world of Romantic Suspense, but it’s sucked me in and I am very happy I will have more stories to tell in this little slice of Texas, a small city called Antioch, that I created.

CF is about Andi and Cole. She’s a detective, he’s FBI and they have to work a case together. They don’t like each other much at the start, so it was fun getting them together. The arrogant hot boys are always the hardest to fall!

Do you need a special setting to write in or do you have a ceremony to get you in the mood? What does it look like?
Not specifically. I mean, I can write anywhere if I have to. My fave place is my recliner, with my laptop. I don’t have a ceremony. Just make sure I write every day.

Describe your feelings when you learnt that your first book was accepted for publication.
Total elation. I had had so many rejections, I almost expected it when I opened emails. I couldn’t believe I actually found someone who WANTED my book. It was great. And it hasn’t changed. Every contact offer is the same! AWESOME!

Where do you find inspiration?
Anywhere really. It could be TV, radio, even talking to friends. Sometimes I’m looking for it, and sometimes it *just happens* That’s fun!

The nosy ones

How much of the real “you” is in your stories?
When you start off writing, I think we, as authors, always put ourselves in our books, even if we don’t mean to. That being said, the heroine of Sword’s Call (King’s Riders Book One), my first book is kinda the cooler version of me.
I suppose there’s a lot of me in Andi, the heroine of Collision Force, too, but I think she’s stronger than me. We have the same dry sense of humour and smartass tendencies, though.

Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? Who was it?
LOL! YES! Too many boys to name. But I suppose Butch, one of JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood boys is my fave.

Who is your least favourite of the characters you’ve written? Why?
Luca Marchetti, the villain of the book I just finished is a vile vile creature. That being said, he was super easy to write. I slipped right into his head. Um…that’s scary.

The steamiest scene from your books
Ummm…Welllllll, I can’t show it to you, but I can tell you. It’s a shower sex scene in the book I just finished, Chance Collision (Crossing Forces Book Two) Dayum it’s hot. I am proud of myself for it. I think it’s the best sex I have written to date.

There’s also a VERY hot wall sex scene in Collision Force but I’m not naming the chapter. I don’t want people to skip ahead. Hehehe.

Favourite comfort food?
CHOCOLATE!

The fast ones

Favourite colour? Blue

Favourite pet? My baby boy, lab mix, Tazer.

Dog or cat? Both

Coffee or tea? COFFEEEEEEEEEEE

Quickie or candles? Both

Hunky or chunky? Both

Suit & tie or jeans & boots? Jeans and boots! (I almost said both!)

Walk in the park or chat over cocktails? Walk in the park

Thank you so much for the interview, C.A. Seeing as you work in court I may reconsider crashing at your house... Let's take a look at your book which incidentally has two of my favourite character names in it:

Collision Force (Crossing Forces Book One)

Bad boy FBI agent and feisty widowed police detective collide pursuing a human trafficker in small town Texas on their way to true love.

Bad boy, married to his job FBI agent Cole Lucas always gets his man. So when the unthinkable happens and one gets away, Cole grits his teeth and hunts human trafficker Carlo Maldonado all the way to Antioch, Texas, where he collides with Detective Andi MacLaren.
Cole doesn’t do small towns and doesn’t get involved with women he works with, but Andi tempts him in ways he doesn’t want to acknowledge.
Two murders, her partner shot and leading the investigation on her own, the last thing Andi needs is a cocky FBI agent who sees her as no more than a tagalong.
Widow and single mother Andi is used to being on her own. When Cole gets stuck without a place to stay, crashing on her couch puts them in dangerous territory.
Attraction and passion bring Andi to a place she’d left behind when her husband died. Her three-year-old son quickly wiggles his way into Cole’s heart, and he starts contemplating things—family, love—that he’d never planned for himself.

Can being forced to work together make them stronger or will their differences jeopardise their case and their hearts?

Excerpt:

“Goodnight, Cole.” Obviously, she didn’t want to talk to him about anything, let alone his overdue apology.

“So, that’s it? You’re not going to accept my apology?”

“Not tonight. I’m tired, and we have a long day tomorrow.” She turned to go.

“Andi, wait.” Why was he calling her back? He could respect that she was still upset with him—she had every right to be. He’d gone a bit overboard with some of the things he’d said.

Keeping Cass’ phone call from her had been unnecessary from the start. He hadn’t needed to carry it on in the car after they’d left the warehouse. It’d only served to get her so pissed off at him she’d barely uttered a word all day. So much for getting somewhere on the case.

Andi glanced over her shoulder and Cole grabbed her wrist. He yanked her into his arms and covered her mouth with his.

He hadn’t intended to kiss her but as her soft, warm lips caressed his, Cole couldn’t have changed his mind even if he’d wanted to. Her curves hit his chest with enough impact that should have jarred him back into his head, but he was lost and overheated immediately. He wrapped her in a tight embrace and kissed her harder.

She fought him, but his mouth was demanding over hers, and Andi opened for him, melting against him, surrendering to him. She slipped her arms around his neck and Cole bit back a groan. Her taste, sweeter than he’d imagined, was like ripe berries. He needed more.

Andi whimpered against his mouth, her tongue dancing with his. His cock stood at attention, straining against his zipper. He moaned as her body melded to his, breasts to chest, hips to hips. Cole had to have her.

As he walked them back towards the couch, she pushed hard against his chest, breaking the kiss and shoving him away from her. They both panted hard.

“Don’t…don’t ever do that…again,” she stammered, the gorgeous swell of her breasts lifting and pulling her shirt taut as her chest heaved. He could see peaked nipples. His erection throbbed and he struggled for coherent thought.

Cole dragged his gaze to her face. Blue eyes wide, cheeks rosy, freckles noticeable, her lips swollen from his. Though she’d been appealing before, how she stood before him now blew that out of the water. She was gorgeous.

He needed to say something. Anything. Apologise? He wasn’t sorry in the least. Speechless just about covered it.

She trembled and rubbed her arm. It took all he was made of not to pull her back to him and kiss her again.

There was no chance to answer. Andi turned on her heel and fled down the hall, slipping into the room farthest away from the living room. She didn’t even pause to look at him as she slammed the door.

He winced. What the hell should he make of what had happened? He stared down the hallway for a moment, his heart pounding. Never in his life, not even when he was a teenager, had one kiss stirred him to the point that Andi’s had. Then she’d run from him. His body shook with unfulfilled need.

Cole couldn’t blame her, really. No way should he have given in to the urge to kiss her. But he had the sinking suspicion he would have to do it again—and more. He wouldn’t be able not to. And hell, she’d kissed him back.

The voice of reason chided that he didn’t get involved with women he worked with, but his cock certainly disagreed. He ignored them both and dragged his hand over his face. The morning would bring complications.

Cole sighed and glanced at the couch. It looked comfortable, but would he be able to sleep?

Since the first night Officer Mick Huon met Mary J Sinclair down at the Convict Inn, fiery sparks of passion have flown between the two of them. After stealing one kiss from her, Mick decides it’s best if he keeps his distance from Mary J, mainly due to his steadily rising affection for her that was stirred up from one brief tender moment they shared. What Mick hadn’t counted on was for Mary J to seduce him. The woman has a fire within her that sets him ablaze with primal lust. To tame a stubborn redhead like Mary J, Mick will have to pull out all the stops if he's planning on enticing her into his bed.

But when Mary J’s dark past collides with the present, it stirs up more trouble than they were both prepared for. Can Mick conquer Mary J’s past in time or will he end up losing her forever?

ADULT EXCERPT
Mary J could feel the heat of his hands on her back. His expert fingers made quick work of the snaps on her bra. She allowed the straps to fall from her shoulders as she continued to sip at his lips. Her hands clasped his head, hard, at the feel of his callous hands fondling her bare breasts. He held them in his hands, like he was weighing the feel of them in his palms. His naughty fingertips tweaked and pulled at her nipples, causing her hips to buck against him. Her lips fell away from his as she cried out. Her bra was whipped completely away from her body then, baring her breasts to his heated gaze. Then before she knew it, his hot, moist mouth sucked one of her nipples inside and had her crying out in ecstasy all over again.

The sensations Mick was forcing her to feel were like nothing she had ever experienced before with her past lovers. Not that she had that many nor had she taken a lover since she broke up with her ex a couple of years ago. Now, her body was primed and ready for Mick and his well-endowed dick.

“Please, Mick, I need...”

“You want my dick in you, don’t you, sugar?”

“Oh god, yes! Please, Mick, now I need you buried deep inside me right now!”

“It would be my pleasure to give you what you need then, sugar.”

Mary J lowered her hands to the zipper on his jeans and unzipped it as she scooted back on his lap. Reaching inside she wrapped her hand around his hot, steely length and pulled it free from his jeans. Her mouth watered at the sight of his dick standing tall and proud in her hands. Mick lifted his hips up and pulled out a small foil square and quickly sheathed himself up. Her panties, she was still wearing her panties. She needed to get them off, she realised a little too late, at the sound of material being ripped apart.

“You tore my panties?” she said in astonishment that he had actually torn her tiny see-through panties.

“Yep, they were in my way and they had to go.”

“But, no one’s ever tore my panties before.”

“Good to know I’m your first for something.” He slapped her on her now bare butt then told her to get up on her knees.

Mary J did what he told her to do and moaned when he rubbed the head of his cock through her weeping folds. Her clit was burning and needed something to take the edge off. Before she knew what she was doing her hand slid down her belly and her fingertips slipped between her pussy lips. By their own accord her fingertips then began circling her clit. “Oh god, yes!” whispered past her lips as a pleasurable haze began to wash over her. She could feel herself falling into the most incredible release. All she needed was the call to come, so her orgasm could finally take hold and whisk her off to that proverbial promise land of intense pleasure.

Then just like that, her hand was ripped away from her achy clit and the promise of release was slowly subsiding. She cried out in protest and even tried to batter away the interfering hand that was tugging her twiddling fingers away from her aching bud. But it was no use. Mick was in charge of her pleasure and right then she knew it. She may not like it, but she would succumb to his dominance. And if she found an opportunity in the future to turn the tables on him, then she would take it, regardless of the consequences her actions would bring to her or her ass.

“No, Mary J. This here is my pussy and your pleasure is for me to hand out and not for you to take when you see fit. If you need to touch what belongs to me in the future you will ask me, sweetly of course. Do you understand me, sugar?”

“Yes...uh, sir?”

“Good answer, sugar. Yes, I rather like hearing you say sir. So from now on, when we’re having intimate relations you will call me sir. Outside of that you can call me whatever takes your fancy.”

“Intimate relations? Really, Mick, why don’t just say when we’re having sex. Honestly.” Mary J shook her head and rolled her eyes at him only to receive another slap on her butt from him for doing it. “Hey!”

“I do believe I gave you some instructions to follow and I’m still waiting for you to follow them.”

“I’m not a damn kid, Mick. I don’t need instructions.”

“Apparently you do, little girl, because your pussy is not on my dick yet.” He slapped her butt again. “So hop to it, sugar, and get that hot little pussy of yours on my Johnson now.”

“Oh god,” fell from her lips at the mention of his dick inside her core. Hearing his amused chuckled had her face flaming with embarrassment.

“Nope, he won’t save you, sugar. Now haul ass, and get what belongs to me on my cock and no more stalling.”

“Yes, sir,” she grumbled out to him.

Drawing in a shuddering breath, Mary J lifted herself up from Mick’s lap. She hovered herself above his throbbing cockhead and ever so slowly she lowered herself down onto his dick. The stretch and burn from not having a penis inside her for so long had her gasping for air. Her fingers found his shoulders and gripped them hard as she paused for a second with his cock partially inside of her tight cunt. She could hear Mick’s deep voice talking to her, helping her to relax her inner muscles and accept his entry. Two years, it had been two whole long years since she felt a cock inside of her and Mick’s penis wasn’t small by any means. It was fucking huge.

“Breath for me, sugar, there’s no hurry, we’ve got all night. Just go nice and slow. Christ, you feel so tight around my cock. Your cunt is like a vice around my dick, sugar, I love it.”

After a few seconds pause, Mary J began lowering herself further onto Mick’s dick. His steady breathing and the calmness he exuded had her nerves and muscles relaxing further. He felt so large inside of her that he actually put her vibrator to shame.
